Program Description
The office of Pre-College Programs is seeking a reading and literature
tutor to assist high school students who participate in the Upward Bound
academic year program. Upward Bound is a college preparatory program designed
to encourage students to develop the academic skills and motivation necessary
for success in post-secondary education. Upward Bound serves students in
9th - 12th grade in Northwest Arkansas. During the academic year, students
attend Saturday sessions twice a month at University of Arkansas campus and
are involved in an intensive academic curriculum supplemented with a variety
of personal development activities.
Compensation
$11-$15 per hour

12:30 PM-2:00 PM on each of the following dates:

Qualifications
Applicants must have completed at least 60 hours of college credit and
have an overall GPA of 3.0 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the subject area to
be taught. Applicants must have a high energy level and be able to communicate
effectively with 9th - 12th grade students.
Preferred Qualifications
Major in subject to be tutored. Bachelor's degree or higher. Previous
tutoring/teaching experience, preferably with high school students.
Responsibilities
Tutors will provide one-on-one or group tutoring as needed for 1.5 hours
during Saturday sessions. Tutors will be responsible for creating and maintaining
a quiet study area free from student disruption. Tutors will be responsible for
assessing each student's academic need and progress, and keep an accurate log of
attendance and behavior.

Applications received by September 7, 2009 will receive full consideration. Submissions will continue to be
accepted until position is filled.

final appointment is contingent upon successful state and federal background checks.
